Plans for Rank Group’s £6 million complex in Southend have revealed how the two-storey development will work, the Echo News has reported.
The development will boast a bar, restaurant and a television lounge showing sports events, online poker players may be among those interested to learn.
Roderick Smith, the manager of the hotel, and Yianis Smith, the building’s owner, have both welcomed the plans. However, they still require the endorsement of the Gambling Commission, which is responsible for giving out new permits. Southend Council, meanwhile, needs to provide planning permission and an alcohol licence.
Elsewhere, the Sefton Group has questioned the government for hailing the creation of a second casino on the Isle of Man.
The owners of Palace Hotel and the Isle of Man’s only casino have warned that there is no realistic prospect of two casinos operating profitably.
It is not possible for a second casino to operate without affecting the viability of the original, the group said.
